Hi all,
Remember this?
Miker's idea to put peoples videos on a cd?
Well, lets try again.
I propose making a CD with peoples videos
on it and some PDF file for an inlay which
can be free on the net or given away for
no cost.
So, who wants to help with this? The only
payment is to *help* with making and/or
distributing the CD.
I want to to use the 'exposure' name to
also publicise the newgroup which brought
everyone together. (I hope there is not
a legal problem with this, if so we'll
call is 'expose your shorts')
So we should have -
a) People to give their shorts to this
project, we can have a GNUish license
where by the CD can be distributed
as is with no modification but the
individuals own the copyright so no
video can be taken and used on its
own without the author's agreement.
b) People to make a 'web page' for their
video.
c) People to help in making the art work
for the CD
d) People to help in making a web site
for this project.
e) People to tell their local newspapers
about this venture.
f) and other publicity ideas.
I will write more ideas down as I think
of them, or as people write them to me.
But the idea here is that I ('we' I hope)
are not here to make money, this is a
device to get our videos out there.
So, please respond and help this venture.
I do think that this can become a success
if we work together.
Thanks for your time,

I will have a short to add to this... The only problem is, that I will have to find a better format then VHS, as it was shot and edited in 16mm film... hopefully mini dv, or something... what format will be using for the cd?
Also, I can perhaps build up a webpage.. as I want to make one of bios for all of us, seeing how every neewbie always asks... right?

Hi shirt,
There was talk before which format to use,
I am personally not too fussed. But I
guess a VCD with extra data (HTML files)
might be a good idea. (Although, I am
also quite keen on just MPG files and
HTML files, as this gives a pretty good
coverage for target computers).
But I think having content is more
important than format. Maybe we have the
videos and someone who prefers VHS can
make VHS versions from the MPEG versions.
(Eventually we might go for DVD if there
is a lot of interest, but this costs money
so this is very much a maybe) Lets just
try to get a collection together first.
Yep, I guess we will all have a 'personal'
page(s) which can have any information we
want, but also a standard index page with
standard bio stuff. Maybe if you make
one for yourself we can use it as a first
go at a template.
have fun,
andy

Andy top tip for you,
your going to get a lot of people who are going to talk bullshit and come up with huindreds of offers but when it comes down to it does shit, if you want to make this work you have got to go in profesional from the start. if someone offers you help ask them for there predentials , ask them to back up what there proposing, if people saying yeah ill add my film ot it chase them left right and centre.
I would like to see this work, it would be interesting to see but go in it on the profesional attitude not the community/low budget doobrie attitude and it will go somewhere

I totally agree with Chance (for once ;?P)
- it needs to be professional from the start!
I added a few ideas to miker's original post... but I didn't follow it up?! (bad attitude on my behalf) - and now I'm hoping to put that right!
eXposure shorts is a fantastic idea, and I'm gonna help!
Andy, I'll send you an email now... I've got a lot of ideas!

I can make a web site for the project, but I'm sure other people can do better ones than me.

I have a short film, that could be considered a trailer for a bigger film, but it is a complete film in itself that Id love you to include if I can. Its not utterly finished yet, I was going to include it on mikers original CD, but I was busy editing the rest.
What sort of deadline do you have? What format do you want it in? VHS is easiest for me (its actually transferred super8).
Cheers

Hi all,
I've thought a bit more about this.
So, sticking to the keep it simple
method, let's make a CD with HTML
pages on it and MPEG1 videos.
This will be 'version 1'. Maybe later
we can have version 2 with more videos.
Also, we can have version 1.1 which is
version 1 but on a different format, e.g.
VHS, VCD, etc.
Since I'm coordinating this, I'll host
the web site where all the info will be
stored. But it is up to the individuals
to give me the actual HTML information.
I'll give more details of this later.
Mods, please send me any ideas you have.
I guess having about 10ish people gives
us 5ish meg each to play with. So this
works out about 5 minutes each. These
are all rough guides, but I hope this
will be enough. So I guess if you have
a long short, then an ability to make a
trailer might be needed.
If you want to mail me about this use
my [email protected] address.
As a time limit goes, I will wait until
we have 10ish people wanting to help. So
I hope to include your work Eddie.
Oh, I will do this as professionally
as I can.
thanks again,
andy

I can offer capture services of my DC1000 from VHS or DV only.
I can then transcode from the DC1000 (very high quality) codec to a VCD compliant MPEG1 stream (which will still play as per normal as a .MPG, but means that is in a format ready to be dropped into something like Nero to make the VCD)
I can also contribute at least one piece that is <5mins
Andy, I think all contribution offers should go through you, then either you get sent an MPEG1 file or they send me VHS/DV media whcih I can transcode and send on to you. How does that sound?

Hi miker,
Yep, this sounds excellent.
I'll put all this information into a web
page and send the URL here in a day or
so.
Once I have all the MPEGs and HTML pages
I'll create the CD image and send it out
to all involved, then from there we all
need to see where we can distribute it or
tell people about it (newspapers, etc).
So far, so good.
Thanks for all your help,
andy
